Back In My Day…
Back when blogs were the social media of the day, every blog had an About Me page.
Now, however, About Me pages really only work for folks who are just famous enough to be able to brag about some shit, but not quite famous enough that you would automatically know who they are if you stumbled across their blog when Googling embarrassing skin conditions.
I am not that level of famous. I don’t even have a Googlable skin condition. There is nothing about me that I could put into this About Me Page that will make you say, “Tell me more. I’d like to subscribe to your newsletter.”
I miss the OG blog days. Cool kids still say OG, right? I miss when everybody and their dog had a blog, when blogs were about sharing life and personal stories, not about gaining readership so you can sell your next collection of poems, recipes, or fruit-flavored prophylactics.
So, in honor of those days and those classic blogs that all had one, here is my:
I am just a guy struggling to live in one of the most expensive places in the country. I moved 2,000 miles away from family, friends, and most of my kids to work in a job that no one understands, at a place that is not as cool as it should be and is even less cool now that coronavirus has decimated our industry.
The Wife and I have spent half of the COVID-19 pandemic unemployed and the other half working for reduced salaries (but grateful to be working at all) and all of it under an incredible weight of fear, anxiety, and stress.
I am just trying to blog again, OG-style. See, how cool am I? And I am doing it for the same reasons I did back before the bad times: to just casually talk into the void and see what happens.
